Southport Rotaract joins in the fun on National Tree Day

sp1

On the 26th July, four members from the Rotaract Club of Southport participated in the Planet Ark National Tree Day with Friends of Federation Walk. Our site was located on the Spit on the Gold Coast. It was an early start to a Sunday, with a little bit of rain, but we didn’t let that deter us.sp2

We were joined by other members from the local community, and had a fun morning chatting to others and doing our part to help regenerate the native habitat. We even met some young people who are interested in coming along to our next Rotaract meeting.

After we had put approximately 200 trees in the ground we were treated to a sausage sizzle and fresh fruit by the Friends of Federation Walk to thank us for our work.

Tree planting is a great way to experience hands on volunteering, immerse yourself in nature and get involved in your local community.  It was an enjoyable day for everyone and we look forward to another tree planting day soon.

Our club participates in a number of tree planting events each year in partnership with Friends of Federation Walk. They hold community planting days on the last Sunday of each month, commencing at 7am. For more information visit http://www.federationwalk.org/
